History
Our work on natural hazards began in 1978 and we started as consultants in Indonesia in 1989 when the building of our database on natural disasters commenced.
Concept
We will help you to find out how the variation in time and space of nature’s high-speed processes—earthquakes, eruptions, flooding—will affect your activities at home and abroad. Knowledge of nature’s own variation is necessary if you really want to know the environmental impact of your own activities and of man.
President and CEO
Sven Laufeld is Ph.D. 1966 and D.Sc. 1974 from Lund University, Sweden. He has been Professor of Geology, University of Alaska 1975–76; Senior State Geologist and Museum Director, Sweden 1976–83, Head of Information Branch and Chief Editor, Geological Survey of Sweden 1984–86; Project Director Indonesia, Swedish Geological International AB 1986–90; Executive Director, Malmö Museums, Sweden, 1992–93; Private Consultant, Director of Vulcanus Tankesmedja and Natural Hazards Group 1990–92, 93–.
He was elected fellow of Explorers Club in 1981 and member of the Royal Physiographic Society in Sweden, Class for Geology, Mineralogy and Geography, in 1993.
Dr. Laufeld has authored 8 books and more than 220 publications and he has lectured at 32 universities and distinguished societies worldwide. In 1999 the Geological Society of Sweden awarded him with the Urban Hiärne Medal for popularizing Geology.
